Assumptions, Facts, and Translations
Politics today is a modern day version of the Hatfields & McCoys. The question is: are you an American or simply someone who picked a Family.
The Fact: The Hatfields & McCoys are against the idea of raising taxes.
The Translation: You could possibly want the same outcome as your enemy. What makes them your enemy is the way you wish to reach said outcome differs from theirs.
The Assumption: You are more informed than they are.
The Fact: The Hatfields & McCoys have access to wi-fi, smartphones, and tables.
The Translation: You never heard the term "fake news" and "biased media" until people started disagreeing with the news and the media. You tend to gravitate towards news and media outlets that reflect your own beliefs and ideals.
The Assumption: You think "the best of you" outnumber "the worst of them."
The Fact: The Hatfields & McCoys both have that "one Uncle" that gets drunk and ruins every family BBQ.
The Translation: You understand that each side of every group conflict has it's belligerent members. It is easy to assume that your side has less belligerent members than the other.
The Assumption: You can't be purple, you can only be red or blue.
The Fact: The Hatfields & McCoys feel as if any sign of compromise or reasoning with the rival family is treacherous or a sign of weakness.
The Translation: You have heard the terms "conservative democrat" and "liberal republican" before. In order for there to be unity, there will need to be less "conservative republicans" and "liberal democrats".
Rabbits & Ducks. Republicans & Democrats. Conservatives & Liberals. Red Sox & Yankees. Coke & Pepsi. Hatfields & McCoy's. We live in a day and age where picking a Family is more important than survival.
