is GOD a MATHEMATICIAN?

Where do I start?

First of all...I am only one chapter in this book as of April 18, 2011. Not only is the title catchy, but it was recommended by a good friend of mine.

I grew up pretty much agnostic/atheist. I was fueled on the fact that no atheist nor agnostic person judged me like people of faith did. Math was the only thing that made sense to me (which explains why I am the Nerd that I am now). People can debate all day whether or not there is a God, but you can never debate the fact that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of its two legs (pythagorean theorem). Perhaps this book could start helping me bridge the gap between the laws of Mathematics (based on logic and reason) and the law of the Universe (independent of a specific creed). The best way to approach math is also the best way to appoach religion: with an open mind. It is not as difficult as you think it is.

I like that this book is not religion specific. When I studied religion in college, my main curiosity was what all religions had in common. I hear about religious differences everyday on the news. So far the book is taking a lighthearted approach to how Math and Philosophy once went hand in hand.

Whenever I take a break from paying video games, I'm going to dig deeper into this book.
